The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I finally got to read The Hate U Give, and it was really good. Starr is a black teenager who lives in two worlds, her black community in Garden Heights and the fancy white prep school that she attends. When she witnesses her childhood friend Khalil shot even though he is innocent, she struggles with whether to speak out or not. Her neighborhood becomes a war zone as gangs, activists, and ordinary people protest police brutality against black people. I thought this was a very powerful and impactful book, especially now as our country is seriously struggling with racism. Everyone should read this book.
